District recognizes top students

Three outstanding Honesdale High School seniors were recognized this week for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Elijah Harvey is in the top 10 percent of the class, while Ashley Atcavage and Nicole Billard are each in the top 15 percent. The students have attained both academic and extracurricular success.

School Director Gina Pritchard, speaking on behalf of the board, told the students, “You make our district shine,” and encouraged them to always reach for high achievements.

The students thanked their families, teachers, coaches, advisors, school directors and administrators for the support they've received over the years.

Superintendent Greg Frigoletto commended the students for striving and said he is confident they will be successful.

“I'm positive you're not going to be good (in the future), you're going to be great,” he told the students.

Elijah's achievements and activities include varsity tennis, varsity soccer, varsity track and field, Envirothon, Student Council homeroom representative, Interact Club, honor roll, National Honor Society and Cooperage Project volunteer. He plans to attend a four-year university to pursue energy engineering. Elijah is the son of David Harvey of Honesdale.

Ashley's achievements and activities include cross country, boys' basketball cheerleader, United Sports Academy gymnastics, American Mathematics Competition, Marywood Math Contest, Student Council homeroom representative, honor roll, National Honor Society and horseback riding Ashley plans to attend Franklin and Marshal College, majoring in biology/pre-med track with a goal of going to medical school to become a dermatologist. She also will be on the equestrian team. She is the daughter of Stephen and Suzanne Atcavage of Honesdale.

Nicole's achievements and activities include varsity soccer captain and all star, Community Watershed Group member, Wayne County 4-H, honor roll, National Honor Society and blood drive committee chairperson. Nicole plans to attend Elizabethtown College to major in biology, minor in anthropology and play on the women's soccer team. She is the daughter of Thomas and Shawn Billard of Honesdale.
